Fallout tells the story of Major Eatherly, a Texan pilot who took part in the bombing of Hiroshima. He was so horrified when he discovered 100,000 people had been killed, that he tried to prove he not a hero by holding up banks and forging checks to send money to the children of Hiroshima. His exploits made him world-famous, and he stirred up every shade of opinion, from Colonel Tibbets who called him a traitor, to Gunther Anders who thought madness was the only sane reaction. Fallout shows how the bomb affected a young Japanese girl’s life and influenced US military policy. It follows Major Eatherly’s wild ride from ace pilot to criminal, to anti-nuclear activist, to inmate of a mental hospital, where he manages to travel through time to a missile site in Montana.

Fallout is a lively and thought-provoking play. It challenges its audiences to decide where they stand, as the world hovers once again on the brink of nuclear disaster… Fallout is a play about nuclear war. It could not be more timely or relevant.
